Principal Investigators

Dr Alessandro Tontini (FBK)
Researcher at the Integrated Radiation and Image Sensors unit
Alessandro Tontini (Member, IEEE) received the M.S. degree in telecommunications engineering and the Ph.D. degree in information and communication technologies from the University of Trento, Italy, in 2017 and 2024, respectively, with a focus on advanced techniques for SPAD-based CMOS
d-ToF systems. Since 2017, he has been a Researcher with the Center for Sensors
and Devices, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Trento, focusing on the modeling and development of SPAD-based CMOS image sensors for Time-of-Flight/LiDAR, quantum random number generations, and bio-/medicine applications.

Alessandro is a physicist trained in biophysics and biology. I am an expert and developer of quantitative imaging techniques, particularly FLIM. I studied physics first in Genoa, and then obtained my PhD working between the ENI-Goettingen and the University of Utrecht. I then moved to the University of Cambridge where I held an EPSRC Life Science Interface fellowship. Since 2012 I work on cancer biology, and in 2022 I joined Brunel University London as a lecturer and group leader.
